Synopsis of Solutions

Actions that can be taken to begin an effective campaign to reduce terror are synopsized. They amount to a societal reformation.

International

    Enlist all nations in forestalling a nuclear holocaust: (Implement a Baruch Plan to control all things nuclear.)

    Eliminate causes for humiliation and alienation: (Remove immediate causes of terror.)

    Internationalize and expand the Peace Corp: (Increase ability to integrate all societies.)

    Foster meaningful free trade among all societies: (Let each country do what it does best; reduce geographic imbalances between supply and demand; establish international currency and common language while preserving the native tongues.)

    Create an effective universal system of governance such as an improved United Nations where participants agree to provide police, special forces or troops as the occasion demands. (Effectively cap terror by employing universal police stations distributed world-wide. Until something better comes along, such stations could be modeled after the Tokyo model, where the police are there to help and know the neighborhood citizens by name.)

    Societal reformation: (Excise extremism. Here we need to understand the Authoritarian Personality and also the Sociopath.)

    Population Control: (There is NO CHOICE. Like microbes in a wine bottle, we can multiply until there is no food, only excrement.)

National

    Insure equal economic opportunity: (This is the most commonly claimed motive for terrorism. The option is war and more war.)

    Separate church and state in governance: (In other words, privatize the "fight" over whose god is God. The option is war and more war.)

    Insure religious and philosophical privacy for individuals. (Human beings are not automatons; we each need room. The option is war and more war.)

Individual

    Employ Dialogue: (Establish effective two-way communication as a culture foundation. Empathy is the key here--feeling with the other person or culture.)

    Discover natural history: (What forces drive evolution and human history? These are marvelous and fascinating stories in their own right.)

    Develop philosophy: (What lies beyond the frontiers of science? The frontiers move out as science probes ever more deeply.)

    Separate faith from tradition and science: (What do we make of the historical association between monotheism and violence? How can we recognize that faith and science are different things?)

    Develop individuality toward a balance in loci of controls: (Understand to point of fluency: anthropology, human history psychology, sociology. These humanities are necessary for citizenship and sustainable societies.)

    Understand nature: (Master mathematics, inferential statistics, scientific methods. Knowledge relies on these, and with them come control and understanding. They dove-tail with the immediate above.)

    Live with nature: (Control our destiny by applying what we know of ourselves and of nature.)

    Celebrate our differences: (We are after all one and the same species.)
